David Rabe Picked to Head Emerson's Charitable Giving and Community Support Activities

Becomes Effective End of 2016; Patrick Sly Plans To Retire After 36 Years With the Company

ST. LOUIS (June 7, 2016) – Emerson Vice President of Financial Operations David J. Rabe will take the reins of the Emerson Charitable Trust and the company’s community giving programs later this year. To ensure a smooth transition in its longstanding and ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities where Emerson operates, Executive Vice President Patrick J. Sly will stay in the role until he retires at the end of the calendar year.

“I really look forward to this new role and a chance to give back to St. Louis, where I’ve lived virtually all my life,” said Rabe, who started with Emerson in 1984. Over the years he has held a range of financial management positions with increasing responsibilities at Emerson, and he currently serves on the nonprofit boards of Forest Park Forever and Grand Center, Inc.

“Dave’s excellent management skills, deep values and his strong desire to lead Emerson’s ongoing commitment to good corporate citizenship make him the perfect choice to follow Pat’s excellent leadership over these past several years,” said Emerson Chairman and CEO David N. Farr.

Through its charitable trust, Emerson provides financial assistance and other support to local organizations in the United States in the communities where it operates that are working to improve and enrich quality of life, promote volunteerism, educate young people, and provide services to those in need.

Emerson‘s philanthropic efforts are focused in four primary areas: education, health and human services, arts and culture, and civic. Since 1975, Emerson has contributed more than $600 million.

“I am excited to follow in the footsteps of the late Jo Arnold, of Bob Cox and now Pat, and will do my best in connecting Emerson with the individuals and the organizations doing such tremendous work to help people and strengthen communities around the world where we live and work,” Rabe said.

Rabe joined Emerson’s corporate external reporting group in 1984. In 1998 he was named assistant treasurer, was promoted to vice president and treasurer in 2000, and was appointed vice president for financial operations earlier this year. His current responsibilities include global treasury operations, pension investments, and risk management programs. Rabe received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Saint Louis University, and is a member of the university’s John Cook School of Business Executive Advisory Board.

Sly began his career at Emerson in 1980 as national sales manager for power tools and subsequently held several positions of increasing responsibility within the Emerson Tool business. In 2000 he was promoted to executive vice president for Emerson and served as business leader for Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions until stepping out of this role in January 2014 to manage the charitable trust.

Sly currently serves as the vice chair of the Saint Louis University Board of Trustees and the national board of directors for Boys Hope Girls Hope. He is a board member of the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation and KIPP Charter Schools, and is former chair and current board member of the Nine Network of Public Media (PBS). He is also a member of the boards of directors of the St. Louis Regional Chamber, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and Better Together.
