Emerson Announces Mike Train Will Lead Reshaped Automation Solutions Business

ST. LOUIS, April 6, 2016 –​ Emerson (NYSE:EMR) announced today that Michael H. Train will become Emerson executive vice president and group business leader of Emerson's newly structured Automation Solutions business, effective May 1. He succeeds Steven A. Sonnenberg, who will be chairman of the business.

 

Automation Solutions will become one of two main business platforms for Emerson under a repositioning plan that began last year. The business will contain the operations and leading brands of Process Management, ASCO, Branson and Appleton units. Both Train and Sonnenberg will report directly to Emerson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David N. Farr.

 

Train has been president of Emerson Process Management global sales since 2010. Before that he headed its Rosemount unit after returning to the United States in 2008 from Singapore, where he had served six years as president of Emerson Process Management Asia Pacific.

Train joined Emerson in 1991 as an international planner and in 1994 he moved to Hong Kong to become the vice president of planning and development for Emerson Asia Pacific. Later he served as president of Emerson Japan, and in 1997 he returned to St. Louis as vice president of corporate planning and international. In 2002 Train returned to Asia to lead the Process Management unit there.

 

Train holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from General Motors Institute and a master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University.

 

Sonnenberg has led Process Management since 2008. He first joined Emerson in 1979 as a marketing analyst with its Brooks Instrument business unit. He held a number of marketing and general management positions in Germany, London and Asia Pacific. In 2000, Sonnenberg was appointed president of Emerson Process Management Asia Pacific, and in 2002 he was appointed president of Rosemount. 

 

Sonnenberg holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from University of Virginia. ​
