Spectrex SafEye Quasar 900 open-path gas detector uses IR DOAS to detect hydrocarbon gas clouds up to 200 m with fast response, low false alarms, and SIL 2 safety.

The Spectrex SafEye Quasar 900 is a high performance open path combustible gas detection system engineered to provide reliable, wide area protection in demanding industrial and hazardous locations. Using advanced infrared (IR) technology with Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS), the Quasar 900 continuously monitors the atmosphere for hydrocarbon gas clouds over distances of up to 200 meters (660 ft).

The system consists of a high power Xenon flash infrared transmitter and a precision receiver that work together to detect combustible gases such as methane, ethane, propane, butane, ethylene, and other alkanes (C1–C6) at very low concentrations. By measuring gas absorption across a wide optical path, the Quasar 900 can identify leaks that traditional point gas detectors may miss, even in environments affected by fog, rain, snow, dust, vibration, or solar interference.

Built for hazardous area installations, both the transmitter and receiver are housed in rugged stainless steel flameproof enclosures and feature heated optics to prevent condensation and icing. The receiver provides industry standard analog and digital outputs, advanced diagnostics, and event logging to support easy integration with safety systems, distributed control systems (DCS), and asset management platforms.
