Magmeter Technologyโ
How It Works โ
Magnetic flow meters operate using the principle of Faradayโs Law of electromagnetic induction. Magmeters utilize a set of coils and electrodes with the coils powered by an electric current from the transmitter. The applied current creates a magnetic field across the pipe. When the pipe is full and flowing, the force of the magnetic field causes charged particles in the fluid to separate. This separation of positively and negatively charged particles results in an induced voltage between the electrodes. The induced voltage is proportional to flow rate, providing an accurate flow measurement. โ
Applications
Magnetic flow meters are highly versatile and ideal for numerous conductive liquid applications across industries such as pulp and paper, metals and mining, water and wastewater, food and beverage, chemical and petrochemical, and oil and gas. The obstruction-less, inline design of magnetic flow meters deliver accurate, bidirectional flow measurement without causing permanent pressure loss. They are ideal for both clean and sanitary liquids as well as slurries and abrasive media. This adaptability makes magnetic flow meters the preferred choice for diverse industrial applications.โโ

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have additional questions related to Rosemount Magnetic Flow Meters, Please Contact Us.
A Rosemount Magnetic Flow Meter, also known as a magmeter or electromagnetic flow meter, is a device used to measure the flow rate of conductive liquids. It works on Faradayโs Law of Electromagnetic Induction, where a magnetic field is applied to the flowing liquid, this induces a voltage that is proportional to the flow velocity. The voltage is sensed by electrodes and converted into a flow rate reading.โ
Proper installation of a Rosemount Magnetic Flow Meter is crucial for accurate measurements. Ensure the flow meter is installed with adequate straight pipe sections upstream and downstream from the meter to stabilize the flow profile. Avoid placing the meter near sources of electrical noise or strong magnetic fields, and ensure the pipe is fully filled with the conductive fluid during operation.โ
Rosemount Magnetic Flow Meters are widely used across various industries, including pulp and paper, metals and mining, water and wastewater, food and beverage, chemical and petrochemical, and oil and gas. They are ideal for applications requiring reliable and precise measurement of conductive fluids.โ
Rosemount Magnetic Flow Meters are designed to withstand various operating conditions, including high-pressure and high-temperature environments. Please use the Flow Sizing Tool to ensure the proper flow meter configuration for your application.โ
While Rosemount Magnetic Flow Meters offer numerous benefits, including no pressure drop and no moving parts, they are limited to measuring conductive liquids only. They may also face challenges in fluids that tend to coat the electrodes, which can affect measurement accuracy. Ensuring the application is suitable for a magnetic flow meter is essential for optimal performance.โ
